1 O God*GodHebrew: Elohim with our ears have we heard, our fathers have told us, the work thou wroughtest in their days, in the days of old: 2 Thou, by thy hand, didst dispossess the nations, but them thou didst plant; thou didst afflict the peoples, but them didst thou cause to spread out. 3 For not by their own sword did they take possession of the land, neither did their own arm save them; but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst delight in them. 4 Thou thyself art my king, O God*GodHebrew: Elohim command deliverance for Jacob. 5 Through thee will we push down our adversaries; through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. 6 For I will not put confidence in my bow, neither shall my sword save me. 7 For thou hast saved us from our adversaries, and hast put them to shame that hate us. 8 In God*GodHebrew: Elohim will we boast all the day, and we will praise thy name for ever. Selah.

9 But thou hast cast off, and put us to confusion, and dost not go forth with our armies; 10 Thou hast made us to turn back from the adversary, and they that hate us spoil for themselves; 11 Thou hast given us over like sheep appointed for meat, and hast scattered us among the nations; 12 Thou hast sold thy people for nought, and hast not increased thy wealth by their price; 13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a mockery and a derision for them that are round about us; 14 Thou makest us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head among the peoples. 15 All the day my confusion is before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me, 16 Because of the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and the avenger.

17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely against thy covenant: 18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy path; 19 Though thou hast crushed us in the place of jackals, and covered us with the shadow of death. 20 If we had forgotten the name of our God*GodHebrew: Elohim and stretched out our hands to a strange god*godHebrew: el21 Would not God*GodHebrew: Elohim search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. 22 But for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are reckoned as sheep for slaughter. 23 Awake, why sleepest thou, Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever. 24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and forgettest our affliction and our oppression? 25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly cleaveth unto the earth. 26 Rise up for our help, and redeem us for thy loving-kindness' sake.

1 Dumnezeule, am auzit cu urechile noastre și părinții*Exod 12:26,27.Ps. 78:3. noștri ne-au povestit

lucrările pe care le-ai făcut pe vremea lor, în zilele de odinioară.

2 Cu mâna Ta*Exod 15:17.Deut. 7:1.Ps. 78:55;80:8. ai izgonit neamuri ca să-i sădești pe ei,

ai lovit popoare ca să-i întinzi pe ei.

3 Căci nu*Deut. 8:17.Ios. 24:12. prin sabia lor au pus mâna pe țară,

nu brațul lor i-a mântuit,

ci dreapta Ta, brațul Tău, lumina Feței Tale,

pentru că*Deut. 4:37;7:7,8. îi iubeai.

4 Dumnezeule, Tu*Ps. 74:12. ești Împăratul meu:

poruncește izbăvirea lui Iacov!

5 Cu Tine doborâm*Dan. 8:4. pe vrăjmașii noștri,

cu Numele Tău zdrobim pe potrivnicii noștri.

6 Căci nu*Ps. 33:16.Osea 1:7. în arcul meu mă încred,

nu sabia mea mă va scăpa;

7 ci Tu ne izbăvești de vrăjmașii noștri

și dai de rușine pe*Ps. 40:14. cei ce ne urăsc.

8 Noi, în fiecare zi, ne lăudăm cu Dumnezeu*Ps. 34:2.Ier. 9:24.Rom. 2:17. și pururea slăvim Numele Tău. (Oprire)

9 Dar Tu ne lepezi*Ps. 60:1,10;74:1;88:14;89:38;108:11., ne acoperi de rușine,

nu mai ieși cu oștirile noastre;

10 ne faci să dăm*Lev. 26:17.Deut. 28:25.Ios. 7:8,12. dosul înaintea vrăjmașului,

și cei ce ne urăsc ridică prăzi luate de la noi.

11 Ne dai*Rom. 8:36. ca pe niște oi de mâncat

și ne*Deut. 4:27;28:64.Ps. 60:1. risipești printre neamuri.

12 Vinzi*Is. 52:3,4.Ier. 15:13. pe poporul Tău pe nimic

și nu-l socotești de mare preț.

13 Ne faci*Deut. 1:28,37.Ps. 79:4;80:6. de ocara vecinilor noștri,

de batjocura și de râsul celor ce ne înconjoară.

14 Ne faci*Ier. 24:9. de pomină printre neamuri

și*2 Împ. 19:21.Iov 16:4.Ps. 22:7. pricină de clătinare din cap printre popoare.

15 Ocara mea este totdeauna înaintea mea

și rușinea îmi acoperă fața

16 la*Ps. 8:2. glasul celui ce mă batjocorește și mă ocărăște,

la vederea vrăjmașului și răzbunătorului.

17 Toate acestea ni se întâmplă*Dan. 9:13. fără ca noi să Te fi uitat,

fără să fi călcat legământul Tău:

18 da, inima nu ni s-a abătut,

pașii*Iov 23:11.Ps. 119:51,157. nu ni s-au depărtat de pe cărarea Ta,

19 ca*Is. 34:13;35:7. să ne zdrobești în locuința șacalilor

și să ne acoperi cu*Ps. 23:4. umbra morții.

20 Dacă am fi uitat Numele Dumnezeului nostru

și ne-am fi întins*Iov 11:13.Ps. 68:31. mâinile spre un dumnezeu străin,

21 n-ar ști*Iov 31:14.Ps. 139:1.Ier. 17:10. Dumnezeu lucrul acesta,

El, care cunoaște tainele inimii?

22 Dar*Rom. 8:36. din pricina Ta suntem înjunghiați în toate zilele,

suntem priviți ca niște oi sortite pentru măcelărie.

23 Trezește-Te*Ps. 7:6;35:23;59:4,5;78:65.! Pentru ce dormi, Doamne?

Trezește-Te! Nu*Vers. 9. ne lepăda pe vecie!

24 Pentru ce*Iov 13:24.Ps. 13:1;88:14. Îți ascunzi Fața?

Pentru ce uiți de nenorocirea și apăsarea noastră?

25 Căci sufletul ne este doborât*Ps. 119:25. în țărână de mâhnire,

trupul nostru este lipit de pământ.

26 Scoală-Te ca să ne ajuți!

Izbăvește-ne, pentru bunătatea Ta!
