1 Why boastest thou thyself in evil, thou mighty man? The loving-kindness of ·God*GodHebrew: Elabideth continually. 2 Thy tongue deviseth mischievous things, like a sharp razor, practising deceit. 3 Thou hast loved evil rather than good, lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. 4 Thou hast loved all devouring words, O deceitful tongue! 5 ·God*GodHebrew: El shall likewise destroy thee for ever; he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy tent, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,7 Behold the man that made not God*GodHebrew: Elohim his strength, but put confidence in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his avarice. 8 But as for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house of God*GodHebrew: Elohim I will confide in the loving-kindness of God*GodHebrew: Elohim for ever and ever. 9 I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done it; and I will wait on thy name, before thy godly ones, for it is good.

Către mai-marele cântăreților.

O cântare a lui David.

Făcută cu prilejul celor spuse de Doeg, Edomitul, lui Saul, când zicea:

„David s-a dus în casa lui Ahimelec."

1 Pentru ce te fălești cu răutatea ta, asupritorule*1 Sam. 21:7.?

Bunătatea lui Dumnezeu ține în veci.

2 Limba*Ps. 50:19. ta nu născocește decât răutate,

ca*Ps. 57:4;59:7;64:3. un brici ascuțit, viclean ce ești!

3 Tu iubești mai degrabă răul decât binele,

mai degrabă minciuna*Ier. 9:4,5. decât adevărul. (Oprire)

4 Tu iubești numai cuvinte nimicitoare,

limbă înșelătoare!

5 De aceea și Dumnezeu te va doborî pe vecie,

te va apuca și te va ridica din cortul tău

și te va dezrădăcina*Prov. 2:22. din pământul celor vii. (Oprire)

6 Cei*Iov 22:19.Ps. 37:34;40:3;64:9.Mal. 1:5. fără prihană vor vedea lucrul acesta, se vor teme

și*Ps. 58:10. vor râde de el, zicând:

7 „Iată omul care nu lua ca ocrotitor pe Dumnezeu,

ci se*Ps. 49:6. încredea în bogățiile lui cele mari

și se bizuia pe răutatea lui."

8 Dar eu sunt în Casa lui Dumnezeu ca*Ier. 11:16.Osea 14:6. un măslin verde,

mă încred în bunătatea lui Dumnezeu în veci de veci.

9 Te voi lăuda totdeauna pentru că ai lucrat

și, în fața copiilor Tăi, voi nădăjdui în Numele Tău, căci*Ps. 54:6. este binevoitor.
