He Īnoi mō te Hunga e Tāmia ana

1 He aha koe ka tū mai ai i tawhiti, e Ihowā?

Ka whakangarongaro ai i ngā wā o te hē?

2 E whakakake ana te tangata kino, e tūkino ana i te tangata iti –

kia hopukina rātou ki ngā whakaaro i whakaaro ai rātou.

3 E whakapehapeha ana hoki te tangata kino ki te hiahia o tōna ngākau,

ā, ko te hunga apo taonga, e whakakāhore ana,

āe rā, e whakahāwea ana ki a Ihowā.

4 Ka mea te tangata kino, i te whakapehapeha o tōna mata,

"E kore e hiahiatia e ia."

Kei roto i ōna whakaaro katoa e mea ana,

"Kāhore he Atua."

5 Whanokē tonu ōna ara i ngā wā katoa;

kei runga noa ake āu whakaritenga tē kitea e ia,

he mea whakatūpererū e ia ōna hoariri katoa.

6 E mea ana i roto i tōna ngākau, "E kore ahau e whakakorikoria.

Kāhore hoki he hē mōku ā ngā whakatupuranga katoa."

7 Kī tonu tōna māngai i te kanga, i te hīanga, i te tūkino;

kei raro i tōna arero te whanokē me te teka.

8 E noho ana ia, e whanga ana i ngā pā koraha;

e kōhurutia ana e ia te hunga harakore i ngā wāhi ngaro.

E matatau ana ōna kanohi ki te hunga rawakore.

9 E whanga puku ana ia me he raiona i tōna kuhunga;

e whanga ana kia hopukia te tangata iti;

e hopukia ana e ia te tangata iti, ua kūmea ki tāna kupenga.

10 Kūpapa ana ia, piko ana,

hinga ana te hunga rawakore i āna mea kaha.

11 E mea ana i roto i tōna ngākau, "Ka wareware te Atua,

e huna ana ia i tōna mata e kore ia e kite ake tonu atu."

12 Whakatika, e Ihowā, e te Atua, tākiritia tōu ringa;

kaua e wareware ki te hunga iti.

13 He aha te tangata kino ka whakahāwea ai ki te Atua.

Kua mea ia i roto i tōna ngākau,

"E kore tēnei e whakatakina e koe"?

14 Kua kite koe; e tirohia nei hoki e koe

te whanokē me te whakatoi, ā, ka utua e tōu ringa.

E tuku ana te rawakore i a ia anō ki a koe;

ko koe hei tuarā mō te pani.

15 Whatia e koe te ringa o te tangata kino;

tēnā ko te tangata nanakia, whakatakina tōna kino,

kia kāhore rā anō e kitea e koe.

16 Ko Ihowā te Kīngi ake ake

kua kāhore kē ngā tauiwi i tōna whenua.

17 E Ihowā, kua whakarongo koe ki te hiahia o te hunga whakaiti;

māu anō ō rātou ngākau e whakapai,

ka tahuri anō tōu taringa ki te whakarongo;

18 ki te whakawā mō te pani, mō te tangata e tūkinotia ana,

kei whakamataku ā mua ake te tangata o te whenua.

1 Why standest thou afar off, O Jehovah?

Why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

2 In the pride of the wicked the poor is hotly pursued;

Let them be taken in the devices that they have conceived.

3 For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire,

And the covetous renounceth, yea, contemneth Jehovah.

4 The wicked, in the pride of his countenance, saith, He will not require it.

All his thoughts are, There is no God.

5 His ways are firm at all times;

Thy judgments are far above out of his sight:

As for all his adversaries, he puffeth at them.

6 He saith in his heart, I shall not be moved;

To all generations I shall not be in adversity.

7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression:

Under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.

8 He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages;

In the secret places doth he murder the innocent;

His eyes are privily set against the helpless.

9 He lurketh in secret as a lion in his covert;

He lieth in wait to catch the poor:

He doth catch the poor, when he draweth him in his net.

10 He croucheth, he boweth down,

And the helpless fall by his strong ones.

11 He saith in his heart: God hath forgotten;

He hideth his face, he will never see it.

12 Arise, O Jehovah; O God, lift up thy hand:

Forget not the poor.

13 Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God,

And say in his heart, Thou wilt not require it?

14 Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand:

The helpless committeth himself unto thee;

Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.

15 Break thou the arm of the wicked;

And as for the evil man, seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

16 Jehovah is King for ever and ever:

The nations are perished out of his land.

17 Jehovah, thou hast heard the desire of the meek:

Thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear;

18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed,

That man who is of the earth may be terrible no more.
