He Īnoi o te Whakawhirinaki Māhaki

1 E Ihowā, ehara tōku i te ngākau whakapehapeha,

ehara anō ōku i te kanohi whakakake;

kāhore hoki ahau e rahurahu ki ngā mea nunui,

e kore nei e taea e ahau.

2 He pono kua meinga e ahau tōku wairua kia tau, ā, kia māhaki,

pērā i tō te tamaiti kua wehea i te ū o tōna whaea;

he rite tōku wairua ki te tamaiti kātahi nei ka wehe i te ū.

3 E Īharaira, kia tūmanako ki a Ihowā,

āianei, ā ake tonu atu.

1 Jehovah, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty;

Neither do I exercise myself in great matters,

Or in things too wonderful for me.

2 Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul;

Like a weaned child with his mother,

Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

3 O Israel, hope in Jehovah
