Te Manako ki te Atua

2 Koia i titiro atu ai ahau ki a koe i te wāhi tapu,

kia kite ai i tōu kaha, i tōu korōria.

3 Pai atu tōu aroha i te ora;

mō reira ka whakamoemiti ōku ngutu ki a koe.

4 Inā, ka whakapai ahau ki a koe i ahau anō e ora nei;

ka totoro atu ōku ringa i runga i tōu ingoa.

5 Ka mākona tōku wairua, ānō i te hinu wheua, i te ngako,

ā, ka hari ōku ngutu ina whakamoemiti tōku māngai ki a koe.

6 Ina mahara ahau ki a koe i runga i tōku moenga,

ina whakaaro ki a koe i ngā mataaratanga o te pō.

7 Ko koe hoki tōku kaiāwhina;

nā, ka hari ahau ki te taumarumarutanga iho o ōu pākau.

8 Piri tonu tōku wairua ki a koe

e tautoko ake ana tōu matau i ahau.

9 Ko te hunga e whai ana i tōku wairua kia whakangaromia,

ka riro rātou ki ngā wāhi o raro rawa o te whenua.

10 Ka tukua atu rātou ki te kaha o te hoari;

hei wāhi rātou mā ngā pokiha.

11 Tēnā ko te kīngi, ka hari ia ki te Atua;

ka whakamanamana ngā tāngata katoa ko ia nei tā rātou oati;

ā, ka purua te māngai o te hunga katoa e kōrero teka ana.

A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.

1 O God, thou art my God; earnestly will I seek thee:

My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee,

In a dry and weary land, where no water is.

2 So have I looked upon thee in the sanctuary,

To see thy power and thy glory.

3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life,

My lips shall praise thee.

4 So will I bless thee while I live:

I will lift up my hands in thy name.

5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness;

And my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips;

6 When I remember thee upon my bed,

And meditate on thee in the night-watches.

7 For thou hast been my help,

And in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.

8 My soul followeth hard after thee:

Thy right hand upholdeth me.

9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it,

Shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

10 They shall be given over to the power of the sword:

They shall be a portion for foxes.

11 But the king shall rejoice in God:

Every one that sweareth by him shall glory;

For the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
