He Īnoi mō te Whakamarumaru

He waiata; he pikitanga.

1 He kī tēnei mā Īharaira –

"Ka maha ā rātou tūkinotanga i ahau o tōku tamarikitanga ake;

2 ka maha ā rātou tūkinotanga i ahau o tōku tamarikitanga ake,

heoi, kīhai ahau i taea e rātou.

3 I parautia tōku tuarā e ngā kaiparau;

he roa ā rātou parautanga."

4 He tika tā Ihowā;

motu pū i a ia ngā aho a te hunga kino.

5 Kia whakamā, kia whakahokia ki muri,

te hunga katoa e kino nei ki Hiona.

6 Kia rite rātou ki te tarutaru i ngā tuanui,

e memenge nei i te mea kīanō i tupu ake,

7 e kore nei e kī te ringa o te kaikoti,

te uma hoki o te kaipaihere,

8 e kore anō te hunga e haere ana i te taha e mea,

"Kia tau ki a koutou te manaaki a Ihowā!

Ko tā mātou manaaki tēnei ki a koutou i runga i te ingoa o Ihowā!"

A Song of Ascents.

1 Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth up,

Let Israel now say,

Yet they have not prevailed against me.

3 The plowers plowed upon my back;

They made long their furrows.

4 Jehovah is righteous:

He hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

5 Let them be put to shame and turned backward,

All they that hate Zion.

6 Let them be as the grass upon the housetops,

Which withereth before it groweth up;

7 Wherewith the reaper filleth not his hand,

Nor he that bindeth sheaves, his bosom:

8 Neither do they that go by say,

The blessing of Jehovah be upon you;

We bless you in the name of Jehovah.
