He Īnoi Whakawhirinaki ki te Atua

Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi. He hīmene nā Rāwiri.

1 E Ihowā, ko koe tāku e whakawhirinaki nei;

kei whakamā ahau ake ake;

whakaorangia ahau, he tika nei hoki koe.

2 Anga mai tōu taringa ki ahau;

hohoro te whakaora i ahau.

Kia ai koe hei kōhatu kaha mōku,

hei whare tiaki mōku.

3 Ko koe hoki tōku kōhatu, tōku pā;

nā, kia mahara ki tōu ingoa,

ā, ārahina ahau, tohutohungia hoki ahau.

4 Kapohia ahau i roto i te kupenga i hunā e rātou mōku;

ko koe hoki tōku kaha.

5 Tēnei tōku wairua te tukua atu nei e ahau ki tōu ringa;

nāu ahau i hoko e Ihowā, e te Atua o te pono.

6 E kino ana ahau ki te hunga e whakaaro ana ki ngā mea tekateka noa;

e whakawhirinaki ana hoki ahau ki a Ihowā.

7 Ka whakamanamana ahau, ka hari ki tōu atawhai;

mōu i titiro ki tāku tangi;

i mātau hoki ki tōku wairua i ngā wā o te hē;

8 kāhore ahau i kopia e koe ki roto ki te ringa o te hoariri;

kua whakatūria e koe ōku waewae ki te wāhi nui.

9 Tohungia ahau, e Ihowā, kei te hē hoki ahau,

pakoko kau tōku mata i te pōuri,

tōku wairua me tōku kōpū.

10 Ka hemo nei hoki tōku ora i te tangi,

me ōku tau i te auē;

poto iho tōku kaha i tōku hē,

kurupopo ana ōku iwi.

11 He tāwainga ahau nā ōku hoariri katoa;

ko te tino mahi ia tēnā a ōku hoa noho tata,

he mea wehi ahau nā ngā tāngata i mōhio ki ahau;

ko te hunga i kite i ahau i waho, rere ana i ahau.

12 Kua warewaretia ahau

me te tūpāpaku kua ngaro atu i te ngākau;

kua rite ki te oko pakaru.

13 I rongo hoki ahau i te ngautuarā a te tini;

i karapotia ahau e te wehi;

i a rātou e rūnanga ana ki te hē mōku,

i mea kia whakamatea ahau.

14 Ko ahau ia i whakawhirinaki ki a koe, e Ihowā;

i mea, "Ko koe tōku Atua."

15 Kei tōu ringa ōku tāima,

whakaorangia ahau i ngā ringa o ōku hoariri,

i te hunga e tūkino ana i ahau.

16 Kia whiti tōu mata ki tāu pononga;

whakaorangia ahau, he mahi tohu hoki tāu.

17 Kei whakamā ahau, e Ihowā;

kua karanga hoki ahau ki a koe;

kia whakamā te hunga kino,

kia takoto puku i te rēinga.

18 Whakamutua te kōrero a ngā ngutu teka,

he kino nei ā rātou kōrero mō te tangata tika,

nā tō rātou whakapehapeha hoki, nā tō rātou whakahīhī.

19 Anō te nui o tāu pai kua rongoātia nei e koe

mō te hunga e wehi ana ki a koe;

i mahia nei e koe mō te hunga e whakawhirinaki ana ki a koe

i te aroaro o ngā tama a te tangata!

20 Ka hunā rātou e koe ki te wāhi ngaro i tōu aroaro

i ngā rauhanga a te tangata;

ka hunā rātou e koe ki roto ki te tēneti,

kei taea e te ngangau a ngā arero.

21 Kia whakapaingia a Ihowā,

mōna i mea kia mīharotia tāna mahi tohu

ki ahau i te pā kaha.

22 I kī hoki ahau i tōku pōtatutatunga,

"Kua motuhia mai ahau i mua i ōu kanohi."

Ahakoa rā i rongo koe ki tōku reo īnoi

i tāku karangatanga ki a koe.

23 Arohaina a Ihowā, e tāna hunga tapu katoa;

e tiakina ana e Ihowā te hunga pono,

ā, he nui tāna utu ki te kaimahi whakapehapeha.

24 Kia māia, kia kaha ō koutou ngākau,

e te hunga katoa e tūmanako ana ki a Ihowā.

1 In thee, O Jehovah, do I take refuge;

Let me never be put to shame:

Deliver me in thy righteousness.

2 Bow down thine ear unto me; deliver me speedily:

Be thou to me a strong rock,

A house of defence to save me.

3 For thou art my rock and my fortress;

Therefore for thy name’s sake lead me and guide me.

4 Pluck me out of the net that they have laid privily for me;

For thou art my stronghold.

5 Into thy hand I commend my spirit:

Thou hast redeemed me, O Jehovah, thou God of truth.

6 I hate them that regard lying vanities;

But I trust in Jehovah.

7 I will be glad and rejoice in thy lovingkindness;

For thou hast seen my affliction:

Thou hast known my soul in adversities;

8 And thou hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy;

Thou hast set my feet in a large place.

9 Have mercy upon me, O Jehovah, for I am in distress:

Mine eye wasteth away with grief, yea, my soul and my body.

10 For my life is spent with sorrow,

And my years with sighing:

My strength faileth because of mine iniquity,

And my bones are wasted away.

11 Because of all mine adversaries I am become a reproach,

Yea, unto my neighbors exceedingly,

And a fear to mine acquaintance:

They that did see me without fled from me.

12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind:

I am like a broken vessel.

13 For I have heard the defaming of many,

Terror on every side:

While they took counsel together against me,

They devised to take away my life.

14 But I trusted in thee, O Jehovah:

I said, Thou art my God.

15 My times are in thy hand:

Deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

16 Make thy face to shine upon thy servant:

Save me in thy lovingkindness.

17 Let me not be put to shame, O Jehovah; for I have called upon thee:

Let the wicked be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol.

18 Let the lying lips be dumb,

Which speak against the righteous insolently,

With pride and contempt.

19 Oh how great is thy goodness,

Which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee,

Which thou hast wrought for them that take refuge in thee,

Before the sons of men!

20 In the covert of thy presence wilt thou hide them from the plottings of man:

Thou wilt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

21 Blessed be Jehovah;

For he hath showed me his marvellous lovingkindness in a strong city.

22 As for me, I said in my haste,

I am cut off from before thine eyes:

Nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications,

When I cried unto thee.

23 Oh love Jehovah, all ye his saints:

Jehovah preserveth the faithful,

And plentifully rewardeth him that dealeth proudly.

24 Be strong, and let your heart take courage,

All ye that hope in Jehovah.
