Te Kinotanga o te Tangata

Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi: Maharata. He Makiri, nā Rāwiri.

1 Kua kī te wairangi i roto i tōna ngākau,

"Kāhore he Atua."

Kua pirau rātou, he kino whakahouhou tā rātou mahi;

2 I titiro iho te Atua i te rangi ki ngā tama a te tangata,

e rapu ana i te Atua.

3 Kua hoki ki muri rātou katoa, kua pirau tahi;

kāhore tētahi e mahi ana i te pai,

kāhore kia kotahi.

4 E kore rānei e mōhio ngā kaimahi i te kino,

e kai nei i tōku iwi, me te mea e kai taro ana;

ā, kāhore e karanga ki te Atua?

5 Wehi noa iho rātou i reira,

i te wāhi kāhore he wehi.

Nō te mea kua tītaria e te Atua ngā wheua o te tangata i whakapaea ai koe;

kua whakamā rātou i a koe,

nō te mea kua whakahāweatia rātou e te Atua.

1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity;

There is none that doeth good.

2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men,

To see if there were any that did understand,

That did seek after God.

3 Every one of them is gone back; they are together become filthy;

There is none that doeth good, no, not one.

4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge,

Who eat up my people as they eat bread,

And call not upon God?

5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was;

For God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee:

Thou hast put them to shame, because God hath rejected them.

6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion!

When God bringeth back the captivity of his people,

Then shall Jacob rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
