Ka Tata a Ihowā i ngā Wā Katoa

Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi. He hīmene nā Rāwiri.

1 E Ihowā, kua tirotirohia ahau e koe,

kua mōhiotia anō e koe.

2 E mātau ana koe ki tōku nohoanga iho, ki tōku whakatikanga ake;

e mōhio ana koe ki ōku whakaaro i tawhiti.

3 E kitea pūtia ana e koe tōku ara me tōku takotoranga iho;

e matatau ana hoki koe ki ōku ara katoa.

4 Kāhore rawa hoki he kupu i tōku arero,

i toe i a koe te mōhio, e Ihowā.

5 Kua hangā a muri, a mua, ōku e koe;

kua pā anō tōu ringa ki ahau.

6 He mea whakamīharo rawa,

kei tawhiti atu hoki i ahau, tēnei mātauranga;

kei runga noa atu, e kore e taea e ahau.

7 Me haere ahau ki hea i tōu wairua?

Me oma rānei ahau ki hea i tōu aroaro?

8 Ki te kake ahau ki te rangi, kei reira koe;

ki te whārikitia e ahau tōku moenga i roto i te rēinga, kei reira anō koe.

9 Ki te tango ahau ki ngā pākau o te ata,

ā, ka noho ki ngā tōpito o te moana;

10 kei reira anō tōu ringa hei ārahi i ahau,

tōu matau hei pupuru i ahau.

11 Ki te mea ahau, "He pono, tērā ahau e hīpokina e te pōuri,

ā, ko te mārama i tētahi taha ōku, i tētahi taha, ka meinga he pō,"

12 ahakoa te pōuri kāhore e huna mai i a koe,

engari ka mārama te pō ānō ko te ao,

ki a koe rite tahi te pōuri me te mārama.

13 I a koe hoki ōku whatumanawa;

nāu hoki ahau i hīpoki i roto i te kōpū o tōku whaea.

14 Ka whakawhetai ahau ki a koe;

he mea whakawehi, he mea whakamīharo tōku hanganga;

he mahi whakamīharo āu mahi,

15 Kīhai i hunā ōku wāhi i a koe,

i ahau e hangā ngarotia ana,

e āta whakairohia ana i ngā wāhi hōhonu rawa o te whenua.

16 I kite ōu kanohi i ahau, kāhore anō kia āhua noa.

I tuhituhia katoatia anō hoki ōku wāhi ki tāu pukapuka,

i ngā rangi i whakaahua ai,

i te mea kāhore anō tētahi i oti noa.

17 Kia pēhea mai hoki te matenui o ōu whakaaro ki ahau, e te Atua;

koia anō te ranea, ina huihuia!

18 Ki te taua e ahau – maha atu i te onepū;

ka oho ake ahau – kei a koe tonu ahau.

19 He pono ka patua e koe, e te Atua, te tangata kino;

mawehe koia atu i ahau, e ngā tāngata toto.

20 He kino hoki ā rātou kupu mōu;

e whakahua noa ana ōu hoariri i tōu i ingoa.

21 Kāhore ianei ahau, e Ihowā, e kino ki te hunga e kino ana ki a koe?

E whakarihariha hoki ki te hunga e whakatika ana ki a koe?

22 He tino kino tāku kino ki a rātou;

waiho iho rātou e ahau hei hoariri mōku.

23 Tirohia iho ahau, e te Atua, kia mātau hoki koe ki tōku ngākau;

whakamātautauria ahau, kia mātau hoki koe ki ōku whakaaro.

24 Kia kite mehemea kei ahau tētahi ara o te kino,

ka ārahi ai i ahau i te ara pūmau.

1 O Jehovah, thou hast searched me, and known me.

2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising;

Thou understandest my thought afar off.

3 Thou searchest out my path and my lying down,

And art acquainted with all my ways.

4 For there is not a word in my tongue,

But, lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether.

5 Thou hast beset me behind and before,

And laid thy hand upon me.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

It is high, I cannot attain unto it.

7 Whither shall I go from thy Spirit?

Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there:

If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there.

9 If I take the wings of the morning,

And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10 Even there shall thy hand lead me,

And thy right hand shall hold me.

11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall overwhelm me,

And the light about me shall be night;

12 Even the darkness hideth not from thee,

But the night shineth as the day:

The darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

13 For thou didst form my inward parts:

Thou didst cover me in my mother’s womb.

14 I will give thanks unto thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:

Wonderful are thy works;

And that my soul knoweth right well.

15 My frame was not hidden from thee,

When I was made in secret,

And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

16 Thine eyes did see mine unformed substance;

And in thy book they were all written,

Even the days that were ordained for me,

When as yet there was none of them.

17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!

How great is the sum of them!

18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand:

When I awake, I am still with thee.

19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God:

Depart from me therefore, ye bloodthirsty men.

20 For they speak against thee wickedly,

And thine enemies take thy name in vain.

21 Do not I hate them, O Jehovah, that hate thee?

And am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

22 I hate them with perfect hatred:

They are become mine enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart:

Try me, and know my thoughts;

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me,

And lead me in the way everlasting.
