He Tangi mō te Āwhina

1 E Ihowā, e te Atua o tōku whakaoranga,

he tangi tāku ki tōu aroaro i te ao, i te pō,

2 kia tae atu tāku īnoi ki tōu aroaro;

whakatītahatia mai tōu taringa ki tāku tangi.

3 Kua kī hoki tōku wairua i te pōuri,

ā, e whakatata ana tōku ora ki te rēinga.

4 Kua taua tahitia ahau me te hunga e heke ana ki te rua;

e rite ana ahau ki te tangata kāhore ōna āwhina!

5 I makā ki waenga i ngā tūpāpaku,

me he tangata i patua e takoto ana i te urupā,

kāhore nei e maharatia e koe i muri;

he mea momotu kē rātou nā tōu ringa.

6 Kua whakatakotoria ahau e koe ki te rua i raro riro,

ki te pōuri, ki ngā rire.

7 E pēhia ana ahau e tōu riri,

e pākia ana hoki e koe ki āu ngaru katoa. Hera

8 Kua whakamataratia atu e koe ōku hoa kia tawhiti i ahau;

kua meinga ahau e koe hei mea whakarihariha ki a rātou;

kua uakina mai ahau, ā, kāhore e puta ki waho;

9 kua hē tōku kanohi i te tangihanga.

E karanga ana ahau ki a koe, e Ihowā,

i ngā rā katoa, kua totoro hoki ōku ringa ki a koe.

10 Tērā rānei koe e mahi merekara ki ngā tūpāpaku?

E ara koia te hunga kua mate ki te whakamoemiti ki a koe? Hera

11 Ka kauwhautia rānei tōu aroha i roto i te urupā?

Tōu pono i roto i te ngaromanga?

12 E mātauria koia āu mea whakamīharo i roto i te pōuri,

tōu tika i te whenua o te warewaretanga?

13 Ko ahau ia kua karanga ki a koe, e Ihowā;

ā, i te ata ka tae atu tāku īnoi ki tōu aroaro.

14 He aha, e Ihowā, i pangā ai tōku wairua e koe?

He aha i huna ai tōu mata ki ahau?

15 Nō tōku tamarikitanga ake anō i pākia ai ahau,

i whakahemohemo ai; i ahau e pēhia ana e āu whakawehi,

ka pororaru noa iho.

16 I tika tōu riri nui mā runga i ahau;

kua haukotia ahau e āu mea whakawehi.

17 Ānō he wai rātou ki te karapoti i ahau i te rā roa nei;

hui tahi rātou ki te taiāwhio i ahau.

18 Kua wehea e koe kia tawhiti atu i ahau te hoa hei aroha mai,

me ōku hoa ki roto ki te pōuri.

1 O Jehovah, the God of my salvation,

I have cried day and night before thee.

2 Let my prayer enter into thy presence;

Incline thine ear unto my cry.

3 For my soul is full of troubles,

And my life draweth nigh unto Sheol.

4 I am reckoned with them that go down into the pit;

I am as a man that hath no help,

5 Cast off among the dead,

Like the slain that lie in the grave,

Whom thou rememberest no more,

And they are cut off from thy hand.

6 Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit,

In dark places, in the deeps.

7 Thy wrath lieth hard upon me,

And thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. [Selah

8 Thou hast put mine acquaintance far from me;

Thou hast made me an abomination unto them:

I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

9 Mine eye wasteth away by reason of affliction:

I have called daily upon thee, O Jehovah;

I have spread forth my hands unto thee.

10 Wilt thou show wonders to the dead?

Shall they that are deceased arise and praise thee? [Selah

11 Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave?

Or thy faithfulness in Destruction?

12 Shall thy wonders be known in the dark?

And thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?

13 But unto thee, O Jehovah, have I cried;

And in the morning shall my prayer come before thee.

14 Jehovah, why castest thou off my soul?

Why hidest thou thy face from me?

15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up:

While I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.

16 Thy fierce wrath is gone over me;

Thy terrors have cut me off.

17 They came round about me like water all the day long;

They compassed me about together.

18 Lover and friend hast thou put far from me,

And mine acquaintance into darkness.
