He Tangi mō te Whakaoranga mai i te Pēhinga

1 Whakaorangia ahau e te Atua,

ka tae mai hoki ngā wai ki roto ki tōku wairua.

2 Ka tapoko ahau ki te oru hōhonu,

ki te wāhi kāhore nei he tūnga;

kua tae ahau ki ngā wai hōhonu,

ngaro iho ahau i ngā waipuke.

3 Kua ruwha ahau i tāku tangi;

kua maroke tōku korokoro.

Pakoko kau ōku kanohi i ahau

e tatari nei ki tōku Atua.

4 Tini kē i ngā makawe o tōku mātenga

te hunga e kino noa ana ki ahau;

he kaha rawa te hunga e mauāhara noa ana ki ahau,

e mea nei kia whakamatea ahau.

Utua ana e ahau i reira

ngā mea kīhai i tangohia e ahau.

5 E te Atua, e mātau ana koe ki tōku kūware;

kāhore hoki ōku hē e ngaro i a koe.

6 E te Ariki, e Ihowā o ngā mano

kaua te hunga e tatari ana ki a koe e whakamā i ahau;

e te Atua o Īharaira,

te hunga e rapu ana i a koe.

7 Mōu hoki ahau i waiho ai hei tāwainga;

10 I ahau i tangi, i whakatiki hei whiu i tōku wairua,

ka waiho tēnā hei tāwainga mōku.

11 I kākahu hoki ahau i te kākahu taratara mōku,

ā, i waiho hei whakatauki mā rātou.

12 Kei te kōrero kino mōku te hunga e noho ana i te kūwaha;

waiatatia ana ahau e te hunga haurangi wāina.

13 Ko ahau ia, ki a koe tāku īnoi, e Ihowā,

i te wā e manakohia ai;

whakahokia mai he kupu ki ahau, e te Atua,

i runga i te nui o tōu aroha,

o te pono o tāu whakaoranga.

14 Whakaorangia ahau i roto i te oru,

kei toremi;

kia ora ahau i te hunga e kino ana ki ahau,

i ngā wai hōhonu anō hoki.

15 Kei ngaro ahau i te waipuke,

kei horomia e te rire;

kei kopia anō te waha o te poka ki runga ki ahau.

16 E Ihowā whakahokia mai he kupu ki ahau;

he pai hoki tōu atawhai:

tahuri mai ki ahau, kia rite ki te nui o āu arohatanga.

17 Ā, kaua e hunā tōu mata ki tāu pononga;

e pōuri ana hoki ahau:

hohoro te whakahoki kupu mai ki ahau.

18 Whakatata mai ki tōku wairua, hokona;

whakaorangia ahau, e mahi nei ōku hoariri.

19 E mātau ana koe ki tōku tāwainga,

ki tōku whakamā, ki tōku numinumi;

tōu aroaro ōku hoariri katoa.

20 Marū noa tōku ngākau i te tāwai;

ā, kī tonu ahau i te pōuri;

i titiro ahau ki tētahi hei aroha mai, ā, kore ake;

ki ētahi hei whakamārie, ā, kīhai i kitea.

21 I hōmai he au hei kai māku;

i tōku matewaitanga anō i whakainumia ahau ki te winika.

22 Kia meinga tā rātou tēpu i tō rātou aroaro hei māhanga;

hei rore hoki i tō rātou wā rangimārie.

23 Kia whakapōuritia ō rātou kanohi, kei kite rātou;

kia wiri tonu hoki ō rātou hope.

24 Ringihia atu tōu riri ki runga ki a rātou,

kia mau hoki rātou i tōu ārita, i tōu weriweri.

25 Kia ururuatia tō rātou nohoanga;

kaua tētahi e noho ki ō rātou tēneti.

26 Mō rātou i tūkino i te tangata i whiua nei e koe;

ā, kōrerotia ana e rātou te pōuri o te hunga i werohia e koe.

27 Tāpiritia he kino ki runga ki tō rātou kino;

kaua hoki rātou e tukua kia tomo ki tōu tika.

28 Kia murua atu rātou i te pukapuka o te ora,

kaua anō e tuhituhia ki roto ki te hunga tika.

29 Ko ahau ia, he rawakore, he pōuri;

kia whakateiteitia ake ahau, e te Atua, e tāu whakaoranga.

30 Ka whakamoemiti tāku waiata ki te ingoa o te Atua,

ka whakanui anō tāku whakawhetai i a ia.

31 Pai rawa tēnei ki a Ihowā i te pūru,

i te kau, i te mea whai haona, whai maikuku.

32 Kua kite te hunga māhaki, kua hari;

ka ora anō ō koutou ngākau,

e te hunga e rapu nei i te Atua.

33 Nō te mea ka rongo a Ihowā ki ngā rawakore,

e kore anō e whakahāwea ki āna herehere.

34 Kia whakamoemiti te rangi me te whenua ki a ia,

ngā moana, me ngā mea katoa e tere ana i roto.

35 Nō te mea tērā e whakaorangia e te Atua a Hiona,

ka hangā anō e ia ngā pā o Hūrā;

ā, ka noho rātou ki reira, ka riro hoki a reira i a rātou;

36 ā, ka nohoia a reira e ngā uri o āna pononga;

hei kāinga tupu anō a reira mō te hunga e aroha ana ki tōna ingoa.

1 Save me, O God;

For the waters are come in unto my soul.

2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing:

I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

3 I am weary with my crying; my throat is dried:

Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.

4 They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head:

They that would cut me off, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty:

That which I took not away I have to restore.

5 O God, thou knowest my foolishness;

And my sins are not hid from thee.

6 Let not them that wait for thee be put to shame through me, O Lord Jehovah of hosts:

Let not those that seek thee be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.

7 Because for thy sake I have borne reproach;

Shame hath covered my face.

8 I am become a stranger unto my brethren,

And an alien unto my mother’s children.

9 For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up;

And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.

10 When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting,

That was to my reproach.

11 When I made sackcloth my clothing,

I became a byword unto them.

12 They that sit in the gate talk of me;

And I am the song of the drunkards.

13 But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time:

O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness,

Answer me in the truth of thy salvation.

14 Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink:

Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

15 Let not the waterflood overwhelm me,

Neither let the deep swallow me up;

And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

16 Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good:

According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me.

17 And hide not thy face from thy servant;

For I am in distress; answer me speedily.

18 Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it:

Ransom me because of mine enemies.

19 Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor:

Mine adversaries are all before thee.

20 Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness:

And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none;

And for comforters, but I found none.

21 They gave me also gall for my food;

And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

22 Let their table before them become a snare;

And when they are in peace, let it become a trap.

23 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see;

And make their loins continually to shake.

24 Pour out thine indignation upon them,

And let the fierceness of thine anger overtake them.

25 Let their habitation be desolate;

Let none dwell in their tents.

26 For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten;

And they tell of the sorrow of those whom thou hast wounded.

27 Add iniquity unto their iniquity;

And let them not come into thy righteousness.

28 Let them be blotted out of the book of life,

And not be written with the righteous.

29 But I am poor and sorrowful:

Let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

30 I will praise the name of God with a song,

And will magnify him with thanksgiving.

31 And it will please Jehovah better than an ox,

Or a bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

32 The meek have seen it, and are glad:

Ye that seek after God, let your heart live.

33 For Jehovah heareth the needy,

And despiseth not his prisoners.

34 Let heaven and earth praise him,

The seas, and everything that moveth therein.

35 For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah;

And they shall abide there, and have it in possession.

36 The seed also of his servants shall inherit it;

And they that love his name shall dwell therein.
