He Whakamanawatanga i roto i a Ihowā

Ki te tino kaiwhakatangi. Nā Rāwiri.

1 Ko Ihowā tāku e whakawhirinaki ai;

he aha koutou ka mea ai ki tōku wairua,

"Rere ā-manu atu ki tō koutou maunga?

2 Nanā, kua whakapikoa te kōpere e te hunga kino,

e whakatikaia ana ā rātou pere ki te aho,

hei perenga pukutanga mā rātou ki te hunga ngākau tika.

3 Ki te wāwāhia ngā tūranga ake,

me pēhea te tangata tika?"

4 Kei tōna temepara tapu a Ihowā,

kei te rangi te torōna o Ihowā.

E titiro ana ōna kanohi,

e whakamātautau ana ōna kamo i ngā tama a te tangata.

5 E whakamātautau ana a Ihowā i te tangata tika;

ā, e kinongia ana e tōna wairua te tangata kino me te tangata

e aroha ana ki te tutū.

6 Ka uaina e ia ki runga ki te hunga kino he māhanga,

he ahi, he whānāriki, he āwhā tuai kerekere;

ko te wāhi tēnā mō tō rātou kapu.

7 Nō te mea he tika a Ihowā,

e aroha ana ki te tika;

ka kite te hunga tika i tōna kanohi.

1 In Jehovah do I take refuge:

How say ye to my soul,

Flee as a bird to your mountain;

2 For, lo, the wicked bend the bow,

They make ready their arrow upon the string,

That they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart;

3 If the foundations be destroyed,

What can the righteous do?

4 Jehovah is in his holy temple;

Jehovah, his throne is in heaven;

His eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.

5 Jehovah trieth the righteous;

But the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

6 Upon the wicked he will rain snares;

Fire and brimstone and burning wind shall be the portion of their cup.

7 For Jehovah is righteous; he loveth righteousness:

The upright shall behold his face.
